Lakeside Hammers star Leigh Lanham has told Sky Sports News that the club are relishing being the underdogs in the Elite League Grand Final.

The Essex outfit host Poole Pirates in the first-leg of the final on Monday evening - which you can see live on Sky Sports 2.

Poole are firm favourites to take the title, but Lakeside are confident they can cause a shock.

"They are tough, they have a great team right the way through and it is going to be difficult we are probably underdogs going into the final but that is not a bad thing," he told Sky Sports News.

Lanham has hailed management team Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook for the way in which they have transformed the club over the last few years.

"We have the new promotion in with Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook and they have changed things around in the last two years," he continued.

"They said form day one they were going to build a special team and this has come a year earlier than they thought as they highlighted the third year to make the final."
