Bjerre: Big score for Panthers (Pic credit Les Aubrey)
Peterborough produced a brilliant fight back at Wolves to make them hot favourites to win the Elite League relegation race-off.
The bottom two sides did battle in the opening leg at Wolverhampton's Monmore Green and the home side began in spectacular fashion as they opened up a 16-point lead after just six heats.
But then the tide turned as The Panthers hit-back in fine style, starting with Kenneth Bjerre's tactical win in heat seven which gave the visitors a 7-2 advantage.
Wolves still held a healthy nine-point lead going into the final two-heats - but they were hit by two maximum 5-1 in Peterborough's favour, which meant the final score was 48-47 to Wolverhampton.
The home side were once again over reliant on top-two Freddie Lindgren (10+1) and Niels Kristian Iversen (11) - but neither could produce huge scores.
The was in contrast to Peterborough who had Kenneth Bjerre (14) and guest Rory Schlein (14+1) both producing big effort.
Polish reserve Karol Zabik also shone with 9+1 for Peterborough.
The return leg at the East of England Showground takes place on Thursday.
The losers will race off against the winners of the Premier League promotion play-off (Edinburgh or King's Lynn) for a place in next year's Sky Sports Elite League.
