Wolves will take part in the promotion-relegation race-off after they were soundly beaten by Peterborough Panthers, who booked their place in the 2009 Sky Sports Elite League.

Wolves always looked unlikely to manage an aggregate victory after claiming just a one-point triumph at Monmore Green earlier this week - but few could have predicted the 67-23 thrashing that followed at the East of England Showground.

Indeed Peterborough set a club record victory margin of 44 points in the process as Wolves filled last place in every single heat.

Wolves will point to the loss of Niels Kristian Iversen, as the former Panther dislocated his shoulder after crashing out whilst looking for a tactical victory in heat 7.

They also lost Morten Risgar in heat 10 - but the home side also saw Danny King sidelined in the same incident.

Obviously few Peterborough riders will have few complaints about their night work with King's four from two riders their lowest score. Only Henning Bager on 5+3 did not achieve a paid double score.

The pick of the Panthers side was their reserve duo of Karol Zabik and Claus Vissing - who both picked up paid maximums.

For Wolves on what was a sorry evening, they managed just three heat wins - Iversen, Morten Risagar and Jesper B Monberg. Monberg top-scored for the visitors with just 7.

Wolves now face either Edinburgh Monarchs or King's Lynn Stars in the promotion-relegation race-off, with the winners taking their place in the 2009 Sky Sports Elite League.
