Richardson: Maximum for Eagles (Pic credit Les Aubrey)
The Sky Sports Elite League season came to a close as Eastbourne Eagles romped to a 63-27 victory over a depleted Wolves side.
Wolves, already consigned to the relegation play-off, ended a miserable campaign with the massive defeat.
Wolves went into the meeting without top-two Freddie Lindgren and Niels Kristian Iversen, and without any top-class replacements, it was little surprise they struggled.
Eastbourne's side strolled through the race-card as Wolves managed just one heat win which came from Premier League guest Ty Proctor.
Indeed The Eagles, with the exception of reserve James Brundle, all hit double figures although Lee Richardson was the only rider to claim a maximum.
Wolves now face a double-header against Premier League Edinburgh Monarchs to retain their Elite League place but promoter Chris van Straaten insisted they would not be so weak for the race-off.
"In trying to patch the team up we had limited resources to say the least. In Poland they had play-off meetings, there was action in Italy and elsewhere and we really struggled," he said.
"Having said that, I would like to place on record our appreciation to Ricky Kling and the rest of the guest riders who agreed to deputise for us at short notice.
"We always knew we were on a hiding to nothing, but for the relegation crunch with Edinburgh we will be somewhat stronger."
Eastbourne also still have some action to come as they face league champions Poole in the Knockout Cup final.
See what has got the Sky Sports experts' tongues wagging over a busy seven days in sport.
