Jonsson: No Lakeside deal (Pic credit Les Aubrey)
Lakeside Hammers have confirmed that Andreas Jonsson will not be returning to Purfleet next season.
The Swedish Grand Prix star was the club's number one last season and led them to the Elite League Grand Final.
However, The Hammers management have concluded that fitting Jonsson into their plans for next season would not be viable given the new 39.9 points limit for 2009.
"This was an incredibly difficult decision to make." said Hammers owner Stuart Douglas.
"Not only is AJ my friend, but he stands for all that I believe is great about Speedway. He is super fast, competitive, and a totally entertaining rider.
"With the economic climate as it is, however, and with Jon Cook and I setting ourselves the target not only of on-track success, but off-track viability and sustainability also, it is imperative that I put the club's future before my immediate emotions.
"Riders of AJ's ability deserve top remuneration, and if the club cannot supply that, then both parties have to be grown ups. AJ has been magnificent whilst we have tried to resolve the necessary finances to secure his berth, and he, Jon and I are treating this as a temporary hiatus in our relationship."
