Swindon Robins have retaken top spot in the Elite League after scoring a 50-40 win over Eastbourne Eagles on Monday night.

The Robins overcame a slow start to the evening to eventually claim all four league points on offer - their move back into pole position coming after Wolverhampton's meeting with Peterborough was called off due to heavy rain.

Last-minute Eagles signing Lukas Dryml is not known for his liking of tighter tracks but two wins in the first four legs certainly showed that Arlington Stadium might be an exception to the rule.

Ricky Kling and Lewis Bridger also scored wins for the home side but they were still only two points ahead after four legs - Swindon's deficit staying the same after Leigh Adams scored their first win of the evening in heat five.

Matej Zagar then led a 4-2 to tie the meeting with Swindon then stamping their authority with two successive 5-1s in heats seven and eight - Travis McGowan leading home Simon Stead before he in turn backed up Ryan Fisher.

Swindon's eight-point lead survived until heat 12 when, needing a result to take something from the evening, Eastbourne grabbed one - Bridger (14 points) leading home Simon Gustafsson.

However, home hopes were soon dashed when Adams (13 points) and Zagar immediately hit back in kind to take the Robins' lead back out.

From there on in, the visitors were able to consolidate their position and with McGowan and Fisher finishing second and third behind Gustafsson in heat 14, Adams' win and Zagar's third place was more than enough to secure the points.

A superb 17-point haul from Adam Shields wasn't enough for Lakeside as they were edged out 46-44 by Belle Vue.

Shields won five of his races and finished second in one, but he lacked the support from his team-mates.

And Krzysztof Kasprzak's 13 points and Charlie Gjedde's 12-point haul was enough to see Belle Vue snatch the win - with the duo finishing second and third respectively in the final heat to deny the Hammers.
