Swindon Robins legend Leigh Adams has announced that 2010 will be his last season in speedway.

The 38-year-old, who quit riding in the Grand Prix series last year, has now revealed he will be hanging up his kevlars at the end of this term.

Adams is a club legend with both British side Swindon and in Poland for Leszno, and he will enjoy farewell meetings at each track.

But he has now decided the time is right to move permanently back to Australia.

"You've got to stop somewhere and it's just the perfect time to do it," the 10-time Australian champion told the Speedway Star.

"I'm 39 this year, I've had 22 years of a great career in England. So, I'm looking forward to the year but, at the end of it, we'll say goodbye basically.

"There are a number of factors; obviously family is the most important. We used to travel back and forth, take the kids in and out of school, into Aussie and then come back to Britain and it worked pretty well.

"But it has really just got hard, Dec's at secondary school now and it's a bit more difficult. That's not the major factor; we can get along with that, it's simply the time is right."

Best of luck Sir Leigh Adams. I was at your first meeting in swindon leathers and i will be at your last, with tears. i spent my teens and early adulthood watching you smash everything that stands in your way and british speedway WILL not be the same without you. In my eyes you ARE the real world champion. best of luck with the upcoming season and also to your family. You will be missed.

What a legend, Leigh has graced the sport ever since he started. A true professional, I count myself fortunate to have seen him ride for a number of teams and his dedication to every ride is truely commendable. Having watched Speedway for some 40 years I would say that he is one of the true greats - even without a world title!
