Peterborough Panthers have suffered a blow on the eve of the new Elite League season after learning that Karol Zabik has been ruled out.

The Panthers had already confirmed Zabik in their line-up for 2010, but they are now looking for a new rider.

Zabik flew to Britain this week to take part in practice at the East of England Showground.

But the 22-year-old, who suffered a serious head injury last year, is still unfit and he will not be recovered in time for the new season.

"There is no doubt that Karol was absolutely desperate to be riding for us this season," Panthers owner Rick Frost told the club's website.

"But it was equally clear that he still has considerable fitness problems and we just can't take a chance on when he will be fit enough to start racing again.

"Karol will need further hospital checks when he gets back home and there is no timescale so we will be looking to bring in a replacement."

Zabik's absence is the second blow to Peterborough on the eve of the new season after they were told they could not use Adam Roynon in a doubling up role next season.

On Roynon's replacement, The Panthers put Premier League riders Simon Lambert, Joel Parsons and Luke Bowen through their paces and one of those could very well take his place.
