Gjedde: Sidelined
Belle Vue Aces are waiting on the fitness of Charlie Gjedde ahead of the new season.
The Dane fell during a weekend pre-season practice session at Stoke.
Gjedde collided with team-mate and compatriot Patrick Hougaard and he damaged his knee.
Although nothing is broken, Gjedde was left feeling sore and is now a doubt for their league opener with Coventry at the end of the month.
"We will have to wait for the result of the scan but we are remaining optimistic he will be fit for out first Elite League match of the season at home to Coventry on March 29," Aces chief David Gordon said.
Belle Vue's new skipper Hans Andersen has backed his fellow countryman to make an impact this season.
"Charlie has been really unlucky over the last couple of years and this injury was a real blow because he's been out since last July with a shoulder problem," he said.
"He will start the season with a five-point average and there is no doubt that he is capable of a much higher figure than that.
"I know he has worked so hard throughout the winter to get everything right and now he has been hit by another injury problem.
"Charlie will be really hungry when he comes back and I am sure he can put a lot on his average which will be great for Belle Vue."
