Nicholls: Happy with Ipswich
British star Scott Nicholls admits he is now sure he wants to be back in the Grand Prix series.
Nicholls will not be a permanent fixture in the World Championship this year for the first time since 2002.
He will instead concentrate on his club commitments, which in England mean hometown club Ipswich Witches.
"There is a sense of disappointment that I am not in the GPs this season. When Saturday nights come around, I'll be wishing I was out there and know I can still do something," he said.
"But at the same time, there is a lot of relief. In the last two or three years, I've had my enjoyable moments, but I've not enjoyed my racing, and speedway as a whole, the way I should.
"So I'm just looking forward to this year being a season where I can get back to enjoying my racing and actually look forward to the meetings. I want to get myself back to where I know I am capable of being.
"If at the end of the season or partway through the season I have the urge to fulfil a dream again, then that's great.
I'll be in a better position and sometimes after a year out, you see how you could have done things differently and go back in a better frame of mind.
"But there is a chance as well that I may look back and say, 'I gave the GPs the best I could and I know I could have done better, but it's not meant to be'.
"I could accept that road has come to an end and just focus on my domestic racing, enjoy it and, without being greedy, get some money in the bank and get set up for the future.
"There is a part of me that will probably do the qualifiers because I think I'll have a clearer picture of what I want to do and where I want to be more at the end of the season.
"I'm proud of the fact I got to seventh in the world, but I know I can achieve more and that's the hard thing. It's going to be whether I accept where I got to and call the GPs a day on that note."
