Champions Wolverhampton Wolves grabbed the advantage in the Elite Shield as they claimed a convincing 62-34 first leg win over Knockout Cup holders Lakeside Hammers.
The Shield is the first piece of silverware on offer in the domestic calendar, and sees the League winners square up against the Cup winners.
And it is Wolves who look set to add some more silverware to their Monmore trophy cabinet.
Wolves and Elite League number one Freddie Lindgren continued where he left off last season with paid maximum, whilst Tai Woffinden romped to 13.
There was excellent back-up throughout the Wolves side with Joe Screen (9), Ty Proctor (8+2), Nicolai Klindt (8+1), Chris Kerr (7+3) and Ludvig Lindgren (6+1) all scoring well in what proved a dominant display.
Lakeside failed to come to terms at were off the pace with the expetion of their top-two Krzysztof Kasprzak (13) and Adam Shields (10).
The Essex outfit now have a big margin to make up in the second-leg on Friday evening.
