Ward: Top-form
Lakeside Hammers remain clear in third place in the Sky Sports Elite League after sealing a hard fought win over Coventry.
The Bees were well on the pace at Purfleet, but in the end the difference was former Coventry man Stuart Robson, who claimed a brilliant 17-point haul from reserve for the home side.
Robson was inspirational as Robson top-scored for his side but there was excellent back-up from captain Adam Shields (9+1) and Lee Richardson (8+2).
Coventry had Krzysztof Kasprzak (11) and Ben Barker (10+1) in good form but may have hoped for more from the likes of Lewis Bridger, Edward Kennett and Przemyslaw Pawlicki particularly.
Meanwhile, league leader Poole sealed their place in the Knockout Cup semi-finals after 57-35 win over Belle Vue - which gave them a 97-85 aggregate success.
The Pirates turned over a ten-point first leg deficit in comfortable fashion as they maintained their unbeaten record at Wimborne Road.
The meeting saw World Under-21 champion Darcy Ward claim his first paid maximum (14+1) in Poole colours.
Poole also had Bjarne Pedersen (12+1), Chris Holder (10) and Leon Madsen (8+1) scoring heavily.
Belle Vue's top-two Peter Karlsson (10+1) and Hans Andersen (9) put up some resistance but they were over-powered by The Pirates.
Poole chief Matt Ford paid tribute to Ward for his performance, saying: "Darcy rode superbly for us and he thoroughly deserved the maximum and I am really pleased for him as he has been through a tough time of late.
"His performance certainly kept us on the right track and ensured that at last we put the Knockout cup voodoo against Belle Vue to rest, but I will add that it wasn't a one-man show by any stretch of the imagination, yet again it was a very good team effort.
"I've said it before and I make no apologies for repeating it, that this Poole side is a very special team indeed."
