Gollob: Polish skipper
World champions Poland cruised into the Speedway World Cup final after winning Event 1 in Gorzow on Sunday.
The meeting was postponed from Saturday, but the delay did not dampen home spirits as the Polish quintet of Tomasz Gollob, Jarek Hampel, Rune Holta, Adrian Miedzinski and Janusz Kolodziej all won at least three races.
None of the Polish side scored maximums, but only Miedzinski failed to score 14 points, indeed his one third place was the only time one of the home riders finished outside the top-two.
Poland's finishing score of 68 was a record for the World Cup, and sees them progress straight through to next weekend's final in Vojens, Denmark.
Indeed if hosts Denmark want to make the final, they will have to come through Thursday's run-off - after they finished second in Gorzow.
The team finishing second and third in Events 1 and 2, will race-off for the final two-spots in the final.
Denmark scored 45 points, with Poole's Bjarne Pedersen top-scoring with 11. The final spot in the race-off was taken by Russia - who despite being without injured star Emil Sayfutidinov, claimed 31 points with Artem Laguta particularly impressing.
Czech Republic finished last on eight points and are eliminated from the World Cup.
Event 2, featuring Great Britain, takes place at King's Lynn on Monday evening.
