Swindon Robins' play-off hopes have all but disappeared after they were comfortably beaten at home by league leaders Poole.

Just 24 hours earlier, the Wiltshire club had pushed Poole hard at Wimborne Road - but they came unstuck at home as they went down 53-40 to the Pirates.

Leigh Adams tried his best with 15+1, which included a tactical win, but only Grzegorz Zengota (10) and Simon Stead (9) were able to add any telling contributions.

Poole were led by club legend Bjarne Pedersen, who looked good for his 13, whilst Australian quartet Jason Doyle (10+4),Chris Holder (10), Darcy Ward (9+3) and Davey Watt (8) helped heap the misery on Swindon.

The Robins have already confirmed that following the match, Morten Risager - who scored zero - would be 'rested' for their next few matches.

"I'm going to be talking to Morten and I will be telling him I will be resting him, not sacking him, resting him," said Robins boss Ronnie Russell.

"I will not be taking him to Lakeside and I will not be taking him to Ipswich on Monday.

"I don't know what's wrong with Morten. There seems to be something in the aggression department, sadly it has slipped away somehow."

Aces downed

Belle Vue Aces missed the chance to move into the top-four as they suffered a heavy 57-35 defeat at Eastbourne.

Indeed things could have been worse for Belle Vue, of Eastbourne again did not have to do without number one Matej Zagar.

The Eagles did not use a guest but rider-replacement and that facility only returned six points.

But the home side did not miss that with almost everyone one of the riders contributing big returns.

Joonas Kylmakorpi top-scored for Eastbourne with 13+2, but there were also big scores from Simon Gustafsson (12+1) and Cameron Woodward (11+5).

Belle Vue, who remain four points off the play-offs, struggled at Arlington with only number one Hans Andersen managing to show any sort of form with 14.

Coventry Bees maintained an outside chance of making the play-offs after picking up four points at Ipswich Witches, who looked destined to finish bottom of the Elite League.

Ipswich struggled without injured number one Scott Nicholls and Robert Miskowiak.

Rory Schlein filled in for Nicholls but managed just paid nine, indeed Czech ace Ales Dryml was the only rider to hit double figures with 14.

Krzysztof Kasprzak led the Bees home with 16, whilst British youngster Ben Barker grabbed 12+2 as Coventry powered to an impressive victory.

"I'm very happy with that, we've been pushing the riders on and we've certainly turned the corner because the last few weeks have been a lot better," said Bees boss Alun Rossiter.

"In a way it's still frustrating because of what could have been this season, but we're still hanging in there and we're not giving up completely on the play-offs. It's going to take a big push but we'll battle on."
