Nicholls: Steady performer for the Witches
Swindon saw their slim play-off hopes come to an emphatic end as they were thrashed 56-37 by an inspired Ipswich side at Foxhall.
The battle of the bottom two in the Sky Sports Elite League proved to be one-sided as the Witches produced a stellar display in front of their own fans.
Scott Nicholls and Krzysztof Slabon, who finished with 12+1, starred for the hosts against a Robins team without the services of Thomas Jonasson.
The talented young Swede missed the Monday night meeting due to a passport issue, meaning he has to now serve a 28-day ban that rules him out of the rest of the season.
Without him Leigh Adams, who will retire from the Elite League at the end of the campaign, was the only Swindon rider to impress with 14 points.
He did manage a tactical ride victory in heat 11 to score double points, though by that stage the outcome of the meeting was already decided.
Grzegorz Zengota, in contrast, struggled, falling off his bike when leading in one heat before coming only third in a tactical ride to register his only point.
Ipswich had surged ahead with three successive 5-1 results from heat six onwards, Slabon recording the last of them having already won the first and fourth races.
"Unfortunately this doesn't happen every week," said Witches manager Pete Simmons. "But I'm really pleased for the boys, especially in front of the cameras."
In Monday's other meeting, Belle Vue defeated runaway leaders Poole 48-44 thanks to 14 points from Peter Karlsson.
