Watt: GP chance (Pic credit Fotospeedway.pl)
Davey Watt is relishing the prospect of taking Emil Sayfutdinov's in the Speedway Grand Prix series.
The Russian starlet has been ruled out for the rest of the season after damaging his wrist in last weekend's Scandinavian Grand Prix.
Sayfutdinov was making his comeback from a broken arm his suffered earlier in the season, but now having sustained his most recent injury he has confirmed that he will not return to the saddle until 2011.
During Sayfutdinov's previous absence, his place was taken by first reserve Piotr Protasiewicz - but after poor displays in the Polish and Danish GPs, he confirmed he did not want to compete in the series again this term.
As second reserve Watt stepped into Sayfutdinov's place at the British GP and made his debut at the top-level, now with the Russian out for the rest of the season, the Australian looks set to take his place for the remaining for Grand Prix.
"It would be awesome if I am in. I haven't heard anything official yet, but Pepe sent me a text message before Cardiff, saying he didn't want to ride in the GPs anymore. If I get the chance to do it for the rest of the season, I'll be over the moon," Watt confirmed.
"Emil is an entertaining rider and I don't intend to try and replace him. I intend to do my own thing, go and score points, enjoy my racing and enjoy being in the GPs.
"I'm definitely not going there just to make up the numbers. Cardiff proved to me that I can go out and win races in tough meetings. If I can do that a bit more often in the GPs ahead, then I'll be extremely happy."
Watt will be hoping to impress in the remainder of the GPs which would give him a chance of being granted one of the four permanent wild card, which due to his injury is the route Sayfutdinov will have to take.
