The inaugural Croatian Grand Prix has been postponed until Sunday after heavy rain left the track waterlogged.

The GP has been rescheduled for 12 noon local time (11am BST) and can be seen live on Sky Sports 4 as Tomasz Gollob seeks to increase his narrow five-point lead at the top of the standings.

Saturday's postponement came after heavy rainfall overnight and during the afternoon at Gorican.

Race director Tony Olsson told Sky Sports it was disappointing but he had made the right decision with the world championship so delicately poised.

Critical

The Swede said: "It is disappointing for everybody - the public, the organising club of course - trying to organise the first Croatian Grand Prix and starting with a postponement.

"But the track has taken a lot of water today and all through the night. It got heavier this afternoon and, of course, if it had stopped and the forecast had said dry weather for the rest of the evening, we could have done something.

"But the forecast is rain 'til midnight and if we start racing now and we have to stop, we will mess it up for tomorrow."

He added both safety and ensuring a good grand prix with the championship at such a critical point were his primary concerns.

"Obviously the safety for the riders and also that the boys are racing for the world championship, we are coming into a very critical stage so it's the right decision," he said.
