Elite League winners Poole Pirates have provided a shock after picking second-placed Wolverhampton Wolves in the play-offs.
Poole boss Matt Ford has earlier in the week stated that he was set to go for Peterborough Panthers - who finished the regular season in third.
That would have left Wolves to face the in-form Coventry Bees, who beat Poole to book their play-off spot on Thursday.
But now Poole have picked Wolves in a shock move by Ford, who said: "I was following all the developments tonight from afar and weighed up all the options and although we would have jumped at the chance of riding at Lakeside I just feel that with the way results have been falling then the option of taking on Wolverhampton could work in our favour."
Wolves owner Chris van Straaten was shocked, saying: "This has taken us by surprise and perhaps Poole view us as their best option because of our injury concerns.
"Even though we're the underdogs we will give it everything we've got to build up a handy lead from our home leg and I'm sure our fans will turn out in force to get right behind us. It promises to be a great night and our boys will be ready to make it hard for Poole.
"Every indication from Poole was that they were going to pick Lakeside, and if they didn't qualify, then Peterborough - that shows they're concerned about Wolverhampton. It should be some meeting."
