King: Title triumph
Mervyn King clinched his second PDC Pro Tour win of 2008 after defeating home-favourite Raymond van Barneveld 3-2 in the PartyPoker.net Dutch Darts Trophy final.
'The King' added to his victory in April's Scottish Players Championship with a fine tournament triumph in Holland - jumping up to 12th in the PDC Order of Merit in the process.
King defeated Mensur Sulijovic, Adrian Gray and Wes Newton in the early rounds before recording impressive 3-1 wins over Robert Thornton and Colin Lloyd to reach the final.
King, blanking out noise from the partisan crowd inside the Holiday Inn, Leiden, Netherlands, took the first set against van Barneveld before the Dutchman hit back to level matters.
However, the Norfolk arrower continued to score heavily and he clinched the third set before a 118 finish put him in command in the fourth.
However, 'Barney' once again fought back - emphatically taking out 156 to take the set in scintillating fashion.
But King notched his fourth maximum of the match in the final set and that proved crucial as he pounced on a missed double 14 from the Dutchman to seal the win.
