Defending champion Phil Taylor put his shock defeat to Andy Jenkins behind him by powering into the PartryPoker.Com Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-1 victory over Vincent van de Voort.

The Dutchman paid for some missed doubles but this was a much more clinical Taylor, a 121 checkout in the fifth leg the highlight for the world champion.

"I was very disappointed to lose on Sunday but I had a point to prove and did that," said Taylor. "It's hard for Vincent because he's a great professional and obviously it knocks him out - but it's dog-eat-dog and I'm gunning to keep my title."

Australian Simon Whitlock is also through after a 5-1 victory over Andy Hamilton, leaving the Stoke darter - who averaged 103 in defeat - facing a nine-dart shootout on Tuesday against Alan Tabern. The two finished level in Group B and the reward for the winner of the shootout is a second round date with Taylor.

Whitlock will face Jenkins in the second round.

Unbeaten

Mervyn King remained unbeaten and tops Group C after a 5-1 win over Mark Webster. A 117-finish in leg five for a 12-dart leg was the highlight for King.

Meanwhile, Jenkins hit out at the round robin format, after his loss in Wolverhampton.

Jenkins could not repeat the form that beat Taylor, as he blew a 3-1 lead to lose his final group game 5-3 against Phil Nixon.

'Rocky' looked like making it three wins out of three in his group as he powered ahead of the former BDO World Championship finalist.

However, Nixon hit back with four legs on the spin to grab at least grab one win as he heads out of the tournament.

Jenkins was fuming after the match, claiming that he could not find the necessary motivation to win the match as he was already qualified for the knockout stages.

Alan Tabern knew only a victory against Brian Woods would give him a chance of making the last 16, and he made no mistake as he powered away with a 5-1 success.

Saint

'The Saint' bounced back from his 5-1 thrashing by Andy Hamilton in his second match by cruising into a 4-0 lead against the under-performing 'Pecker'.

Woods at least managed to get a leg on the board but it only delayed the inevitable and Tabern got the win that gave him the chance to go through, depending on other results.

Michael van Gerwen was already out of the tournament, but he still produced his best game of the tournament to make sure Colin McGarry could not progress.

The young Dutchman defeated 'the Chief' 5-1 to make sure the Ulsterman could not make the last 16 as Mark Webster joined Mervyn King in the second round.
