Wade: Three wins out of three in group stages
Raymond van Barneveld and James Wade cruised through to the last 16 of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts.
Dutchman van Barneveld beat a limping Gary Mawson 5-3 to maintain his perfect record in Wolverhampton and finish on top of Group E.
He managed maximums in the opening two legs on his way to a 3-0 lead before allowing his opponent a brief lifeline in the contest.
Mawson, still struggling with a toe injury, threatened to repeat his shock wins over van Barneveld in the US and UK Open when he took two legs on the trot.
However, he was unable to ever get on level terms and to make matters even worse, the Canadian then had to watch on as Robert Thornton's 5-4 win over Kirk Shepherd knocked him out.
An in-form Wade made it three wins from three in Group H as he overcame an early deficit to beat Adrian Lewis 5-3.
Knowing only a win would keep alive his qualification chances, Lewis hit an impressive 127 checkout on his way to a 2-1 lead.
However, reigning UK Open champion Wade managed back-to-back 14-darters before closing out the contest by hitting double top. Dennis Ovens, who demolished Niels De Ruiter 5-0, finished second in the group.
Terry Jenkins is also through to the knockout stages of the tournament after producing a 5-0 demolition of Wes Newton in the opening game of the night.
Wildcard qualifier Newton had come into the contest with an unbeaten record but only got two darts at doubles as he was blown away in a hurry.
Jenkins' whirlwind success, which included a 12-dart leg, made sure he finished in the top two in Group F alongside Darin Young, who defeated Colin Lloyd 5-2.
Gary Anderson and Darryl Fitton were both left celebrating after the pair qualified from Group H at the expense of Paul Nicholson.
Fitton needed just three legs to seal his progression, though he went on to lose 5-4 to 2007 semi-finalist Anderson, who then had to watch on for the result of the final match.
Nicholson needed a 5-0 success over Kevin Painter to force a shoot-out. He wasn't able to achieve it, though, eventually losing 5-4 after dropping an early leg to end his qualification hopes.
The evening ended with Andy Hamilton beating Alan Tabern in a nine-dart shoot-out to take second spot in Group B.
Hamilton's play-off success means he will next face defending champion Phil Taylor, the man he lost to in last year's final.
