Terry Jenkins ousted number two seed Raymond van Barneveld after a thrilling quarter-final at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton, and now faces Gary Anderson in the semis.

Mervyn King also made the last four as he defeated Mark Webster in his quarter-final battle, setting up a showdown with Phil Taylor after he survived a big scare against Simon Whitlock.

Herefordshire thrower Jenkins beat van Barneveld in the Grand Slam 12 months ago, and he repeated that result against an under-par Dutchman.

Barney has been in the doldrums this year, but after a slow start to the match he hit back against Jenkins to go 9-7 ahead with a classy 103 finish that signalled he was back on form.

Response

However, 'The Bull' responded with a 71 outshot under immense pressure to stay in the match, and followed that by stealing the darts in the next to level at 9-9.

The decider went right down to the wire and, after both men had missed a dart for the match, Barney hit the wrong double to bust his 16 and Jenkins nailed double five to send him through into the last four.

"I made hard work of it and missed a lot of doubles in the early legs," said Jenkins. "I should have made it a lot easier for myself but I let him back in."

Anderson is up next for Jenkins after he came from 3-0 and 5-2 behind to beat Darryl Fitton to make the semi-finals for the second year running.

The Scottish thrower, the BDO number one, fell behind early to the 'Dazzler', who was lighting up the Wolverhampton Civic with his early arrows.

However, Anderson responded in fine style with 118 and 150 checkouts the highlight of an explosive run of five legs on the bounce, and eight out of the last nine, to go through 10-6.

Power scare

Taylor survived a big scare from fast-starting Australian Whitlock to eventually go through 10-7 and set-up a semi-final clash with King.

'The Wizard' made a lightning quick start to the match by racing into a 5-1 lead, and the manner of his darts suggested there could be a shock on the cards.

Taylor responded in typical fashion though, with the surge from the 'Power' yielding six consecutive legs and putting him 7-5 in front.

The two traded legs for 9-7, and after Whitlock missed a glorious chance to stay in the match, Taylor converted to make the last four after dodging another bullet.

King knocked out BDO world champion Mark Webster to make the semi-finals, after edging another tense battle to go through 10-8.

King had taken out 161 and 121 but was still locked at 8-8 with Webster before he crucially broke the throw, and in the next leg he hit seven perfect darts on his way to a nine-darter.

The chance was missed, but a 12-darter was enough to win it with a 100 average overall and looking good heading into the last four.

"The longer the game went on, we both got better but Mark was struggling to hold his throw at the back end of the game," said King.

"It will be a massive semi-final and I'll be up for it on Saturday."
