Taylor: Powerful display
Phil Taylor's quest for a third UK Open title gathered pace with a crushing 10-0 victory over Mark Lawrence in the quarter-finals at Bolton.
Taylor will face Ronnie Baxter, a 10-7 victor over Terry Jenkins, in the last four, while Colin Osborne and Kevin Painter will battle it out in the remaining semi-final.
'The Power' was at his destructive best against Yorkshire lorry driver Lawrence, averaging a UK Open record 115.62 on his way to a whitewash victory.
The 14-time world champion set the tone with a 103 checkout in the opening leg before trading maximums with Lawrence in the second, which he won on double four.
A 13-darter was followed up by a 11-darter as Taylor surged 4-0 ahead, and a clinical 120 checkout shortly after saw the Stoke dartist romp into a 7-0 lead.
Victory was sealed with a 10-darter on double 18 and Taylor heads into his semi-final with Baxter in ominous form.
'The Rocket' sealed his place in a first UK Open semi-final with a narrow victory over Jenkins in a low-quality affair.
Neither player scored heavily on a consistent basis, however Baxter was the more clinical on the doubles and sealed victory in the 17th leg on double 16.
The closest quarter-final match-up was played out between Painter and Alan Tabern - the former edging through a 10-8 winner to seal a date with Osborne.
'The Wizard' had little difficulty overcoming close friend Jamie Caven 10-3 in their quarter-final clash.
