Phil Taylor won the UK Open for the third time in his career with an 11-6 triumph over Colin Osborne in Bolton on Sunday.

The Stoke thrower lost the opening three legs as Osborne proved deadly on the doubles in the early stages.

But Taylor turned the tide in the fourth leg, the start of a run of nine in a row as the 14-time world champion took complete control.

Osborne won the 13th leg to reduce his deficit to 9-4 after play was briefly held up when a member of the crowd invaded the stage.

Order was quickly restored by the security staff and Taylor closed out the victory in the 17th leg.

Taylor, who finished with a tournament average of 106.66, told Sky Sports: "I'm over the moon to get the win.

"Colin started off like a train and I thought 'I'm not going to get back here'.

"All of a sudden he started feeling the pressure.

"It's been a long weekend, it's been hard work."

Painter, Baxter exit

Earlier on Sunday evening, Osborne had seen off Kevin Painter 10-7 at the semi-final stage.

Osborne raced into a 5-1 lead and went on to close out the victory in the 17th leg, having produced a three-dart average of 96.51 during the match.

He was joined in the final by Taylor, who held off a superb comeback from Ronnie Baxter to notch a 10-6 success.

Taylor looked on course for a repeat of his 10-0 win over Mark Lawrence in the last eight when he reeled off the opening six legs.

But Baxter held all the momentum when he won six of the next seven to reduce his deficit to 7-6.

However, Taylor rediscovered his fluency in the nick of time and took the final three legs on the bounce - including a 161 checkout in the 15th - to clinch the result.
