Dobromyslova:

This year, I'm a different player to when I played the Grand Slam in 2008. I feel more comfortable and that shows on stage.

Ana Dobromyslova became just the second woman to defeat a male star in a major tournament as she defeat Vincent van der Voort 5-4 in the Grand Slam of Darts.

It was almost a real ladies' night in Wolverhampton as reigning women's world champ Francis Hoenselaar led three-time men's world champion John Part 2-0 and 3-1 before losing 5-3 to the Canadian.

Dobromyslova stole the show though as the 25-year-old Russian produced a superb comeback to stun Dutchman van der Voort by taking the last two legs of the match.

The former women's world champion fell 3-1 behind but produced a 15-darter followed by a stunning 12-darter, which included a 180 and ended with a breathtaking 121 checkout on the bull to make it 3-3.

Despite van der Voort moving ahead again, Dobromyslova hit three 140s to steal the darts and level once more, and after the Dutchman missed double 16 for the match the Russian nailed 100 in two darts to complete her historic win.

Queen Ana

"I'm on top of the world," said Dobromyslova. "I'm really pleased a lady has won and pleased it's me. This year, I'm a different player to when I played the Grand Slam in 2008. I feel more comfortable and that shows on stage."

Current women's champion Hoenselaar threatened to cause an even bigger upset against John Part as she took out 113 on the way to going 2-0 ahead against the experienced Canadian.

Hoenselaar had chances to win the match but Part escaped with the win, much to his relief, as he said after the match: "That was scary. Francis showed that she is an excellent dart player and I had to work hard for the win."

For once Phil Taylor was overshadowed as the women took centre stage, but he still made his mark as he averaged over 105 as he whitewashed former BDO champion Mark Webster 5-0.

Colin Lloyd also nudged his average just over 101 as he handed out a 5-0 whitewash to Brian Woods to hit back after an opening match defeat against Colin Osborne and get right back into the tournament.

Barney battle

Raymond van Barneveld was right up against it as he trailed Kevin Painter 3-1 and then 4-2, but the Dutchman rallied to win three legs on the spin to win the decider and he now has one foot in the second round.

"Kevin played great darts before the break but after the break it turned around and Kevin let me in," said van Barneveld. "There are so many times I've played well and lost so it's good it's happened for me the other way tonight."

BDO number one Tony O'Shea made it two wins out of two with another strong performance to see-off Colin Osborne 5-2, and the Stockport man now looks a big challenger for the title.

Kirk Shepherd kept his hopes of progression alive and almost certainly killed off Darryl Fitton's hopes as he came out with a 5-3 win in their meeting.
