Tony O'Shea booked his place in the quarter-finals of the PartyPoker Grand Slam of Darts with 10-9 victory over Mark Webster.

The eighth seed led 5-2 and 7-5 in a close match but Webster forged ahead 9-8 before wasting four darts for the match.

O'Shea hit 180 with his first three darts and he maintained that momentum throughout the match, as Welshman Webster missed numerous chances at doubles to allow his opponent to extend his advantage.

However, Webster took advantage of O'Shea's misses to win two on the trot before the Stockport slinger hit double 12 to make it 7-5 and just three from victory.

Webster won the next three legs though, and although O'Shea levelled thanks mainly to a maximum it was the Welshman who edged ahead again with a 117 checkout.

Back came O'Shea, nailing double top to force a decider, and after hitting another 180 against the throw missed a dart at double 12 after Webster had missed tops.

Disastrously for Webster, he missed each of his next three attempts at the double to let O'Shea back in, and he made no mistake in taking out 12s.

Inevitable

Kevin Painter enjoyed an easier passage into the last eight with a 10-5 victory over former World Championship finalist Kirk Shepherd.

Painter hit 50 percent of his doubles and hit six maximums to pull clear of his opponent who was just 5-4 behind at one stage.

Painter reeled off the next four legs to take him within one of the win, taking out 118 in the process, before Shepherd was able to respond.

The Artist was unable to put away his opponent in the next as Shepherd scrambled with double two, but it merely delayed the inevitable as Painter nailed his sixth maximum before closing out the match with double top.

Phil Taylor reeled off seven successive legs to see off Colin Lloyd 10-4

The defending champion started slowly as 'Jaws' took the opening leg against the darts before Taylor responded with a 131 checkout and then nailed double eight to lead.

Upped the ante

Lloyd levelled but Taylor hit two 180s in an 11 darter to lead once again before Lloyd won the next two, checking out 84 and 116 in the process.

But Taylor went on a run that saw him average over 107 with a clutch of maximums that left his opponent unable to respond.

He levelled and then defied a 180 against him to nail double three for the lead, and when Lloyd started to miss his doubles Taylor upped the ante, quickly moving ahead 7-4.

The Power hit an 11-darter to take the 12th, took out 130 and then nailed tops to complete an impressive triumph.

Raymond van Barneveld came back from 4-2 down against Mervyn King to register a gritty 10-6 success.

The Dutchman dragged it back to 5-5 and then took five of the next six legs to wrap up the win, booking a quarter-final date with Painter.

King missed two darts to move 6-5 ahead and the five-time world champion then checked out 161 to lead by two for the first time.

An 11-darter extended his lead before King stopped the rot when taking out double nine, but four missed doubles proved costly as Barney made him pay.

The Dutchman then landed double top at the first time of asking to close out the match with a 14-dart leg.
