Euan Murray has confirmed that he will miss the start of the new season as he needs an operation on his injured leg.

The Scotland international was forced to return home from the British Lions tour after injuring his ankle in the final warm-up game.

After observation it was revealed that Murray had not only damaged the ligaments in his ankle, but had broken a bone in his shin.

The injury is a big blow to his club Northampton, as it will leave them very light in the front row department as their new signing Brian Mujati will not be arriving until the end of his Currie Cup commitments with Western Province in November.

Murray has not given any timescale as to when he will return and after what has been a relentless summer he will be looking to get some rest.

"I am not putting a timetable on my recovery - It will take as long as it takes," he told the Northampton Chronicle.

"The whole business has been very frustrating and I am just focusing on getting back to rugby as soon as possible."
