The first set of Guinness Premiership monthly awards have been revealed after four rounds of action, with London teams scooping both the Director of Rugby and Player of the Month awards.

Brendan Venter takes Director of Rugby of the Month for his contributions at Saracens after the team took a faultless four wins from their first four league matches.

Only one of the victories was claimed on home turf, with Saracens beating London Irish at Twickenham Stadium and Harlequins a fortnight later down the road at the Twickenham Stoop.

Sandwiched between those wins was the triumph over Northampton Saints at Wembley Stadium in the first ever club rugby match held at the iconic venue.

A win over Gloucester Rugby at Vicarage Road completed their undefeated streak and put Saracens top of the table.

Player of the month

London Irish scrum half Paul Hodgson received the Guinness Premiership Player of the Month award.

Hodgson has been involved in all four of the Exiles' matches so far and has been crucial in the fight back from their opening round defeat by Saracens.

Irish went on to record three straight wins to put them second in the table and have already scored 14 tries this season, five more than London Wasps and Northampton Saints who have the next best total.

Hodgson's team-mate Sailosi Tagicakibau and Saints' fly-half Shane Geraghty were also mentioned as candidates for September's Player of the Month.

Tagicakibau has already recorded five tries this season, including a brace against London Wasps and Geraghty has been essential in boosting Northampton Saints into the third spot in the Premiership whilst in the process putting himself in the picture for England selection for their autumn international series.
