Wales and Ospreys winger Shane Williams has been ruled out for a minimum of four weeks due to a torn hamstring.

The injury was sustained in Wales' 33-12 defeat to Australia in the opening five minutes.

Although the 32-year-old does not require surgery, rehabilitation is expected to take at least a month.

Williams will miss the Heineken Cup double header against Viadana but should return for Ospreys' crucial Pool Three clashes against Clermont Auvergne and Leicester in January.

Mark Davies, Wales team physio said: "Shane has a grade two tear to his hamstring and will be out of action for four to six weeks, undergoing treatment and rehab."

Meanwhile, the Ospreys have been boosted by the news that Ryan Jones is expected to resume training. The Wales captain missed the climax to the autumn internationals due to a back injury.

"Ryan will link back up with the Ospreys this week and should be taking some part in training and conditioning but will obviously be managed by his region," added Davies.

Elsewhere, Scarlets hooker Matthew Rees is set to go under the knife to repair the groin injury he sustained against Australia.

Cardiff's Leigh Halfpenny continues to receive treatment on his dead leg after joining up with the Barbarians for their upcoming match against New Zealand.
