Wales remain confident British and Irish Lions prop Gethin Jenkins will be passed fit to tackle Scotland in Cardiff on Saturday.

Jenkins missed the 30-17 defeat to England in the RBS Six Nations opener after suffering a calf injury.

However he is now on course to return to the line-up, providing he can come through training this week unscathed.

Wales team physiotherapist Mark Davies said: "At this moment in time, it is looking good."

The news for Jenkins' front row colleague Matthew Rees is not as promising, though, as he could now miss the entire tournament with a recurrent groin problem.

Davies added: "We need to allow it to settle down. It is about what is the best option for Matthew."

Meanwhile Alun-Wyn Jones has received the backing of the Wales team following his costly sin-binning against England.

Jones was yellow carded for a stupid trip on England hooker Dylan Hartley - with Wales leaking 17 points while the Ospreys lock was sidelined.

However despite being singled out by angry coach Warren Gatland, Jones is likely to keep his place in the line-up against Scotland.

Wales assistant coach Neil Jenkins said: "We all make mistakes and he made one on the weekend. It was one of those things and we move on.

"We all know he is a fantastic rugby player. He is hurting as much as anyone."

Asked if Jones was set to be axed against Scotland, Jenkins replied: "I don't think so."
