All Blacks flanker Adam Thomson and fly-half Michael Hobbs have been suspended by the Highlanders ahead of the clash with the Bulls.

The duo have been punished after they breached team disciplinary rules by breaking a curfew imposed after the 33-0 defeat to the Stormers.

And coach Glenn Moore admitted that omitting Thomson and Hobbs had been an easy decision to make.

"Each week you have to earn the right to play for this team. This slip up, albeit out of character for these two guys, means they don't get the opportunity to play this week," he said.

New Zealand Highlanders chief executive Richard Reid was less than impressed with the players, though.

"I'm pretty p***** off about it really. We've had a few issues over the last couple of years," he said.

"And this isn't one that involves the law, but the issue of young sportsmen not doing the right thing - saying one thing and doing another. It just wears you down after a while."
