Foden: Pushing Armitage for the No.15 shirt
Ben Foden insists he will do his talking on the pitch in the future after angering England manager Martin Johnson with his comments following the autumn internationals.
The talented Northampton full-back had admitted he was "livid" at being overlooked for the games against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.
And having missed out despite the fact rival Delon Armitage was sidelined, Foden criticised the lack of feedback from the England management.
But Foden, who will be on the bench for the RBS Six Nations clash against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday, insists he has now learned his lesson and the 24-year-old has been buoyed by words of encouragement from England attack coach Brian Smith.
"After the autumn internationals I made the mistake of venting my frustrations," Foden said.
"Johnno phoned me up and said, "If you've got to comment, talk to us about it'. So that is one thing I have been able to do.
"Obviously I am very disappointed I didn't get the call but Brian Smith told me it was very close and that I am pushing Delon to the limits.
"That is all I needed to hear because it shows they are thinking about me and looking at me."
Foden had been tipped to start the Calcutta Cup match after an impressive 30-minute cameo against Ireland.
And although Armitage got the nod to start after a "marathon" selection meeting, Foden claims he is ready to make an impact off the bench should he get the chance.
"I think it is reassuring, it shows they are thinking of me," Foden insisted.
"If I do take the field I will give it my best and try to run him close for the last game in France."
