Bath fly-half Ryan Davis will join Exeter Chiefs next season after agreeing terms with the newly-promoted Guinness Premiership outfit.

Davis, 24, is a former England U16s and U18s international who captained his country at U21s level in the 2005 Six Nations.

The Bristol-born utility back, who can also operate at centre or full-back, also represented his country at the 2006 IRB Under-21 World Championship in France.

Davis, who joined Bath in 2004, made 41 Premiership appearances and featured in six Heineken Cup games for a total of 113 points during his time with the club.

His most prolific spell came last season when he provided much needed cover for injured duo Butch James and Olly Barkley.

Speaking on Exeter Chiefs' website head coach Rob Baxter said that backs coach Ali Hepher had been eyeing Davis for some time.

Determination

"Strangely, I was asked by a reporter from Rugby Times about a link with Ryan quite a while ago when I was unaware he was even available," he said.

"Ali Hepher had mentioned him to me a couple of times as a player who he felt would fit in well with what he is trying to achieve with our back division and so when his agent contacted me things progressed pretty quickly.

"A big factor in our success this year has been the ability for our backs to be able to play well in more than one position and the attacking options this creates through the course of a game or indeed the season.

"Ryan has shown he can play to a Premiership standard at both 10 and 12.

"His attitude impressed both Ali and I when we met earlier in the season and his work ethic and determination to improve himself and the team he plays in is just the type of characteristic we expect from an Exeter Chief."
