Johnson: Once more unto the breach
The Help for Heroes Rugby Challenge Match has received a massive boost as Sky Sports announce live coverage of this competitive one-off match.
The charity game, with proceeds going directly to improve facilities at the joint services rehabilitation centre Headley Court, will be played at Twickenham on 20 September 2008.
Former England Captains Phil de Glanville and Lawrence Dallaglio will act as Team Manager and playing Captain respectively for the Help for Heroes XV, with Welsh Rugby legends Ieuan Evans and Scott Gibbs filling the same roles for the International Select XV.
The teams will feature a one-off return for ex-players including Martin Johnson CBE and Jonah Lomu, as well as comprising current Guinness Premiership, Magners League, Division One, overseas and armed forces representatives.
The coverage will be in high definition, and Sky will provide the British Forces Broadcasting Service with the footage to be shown to British troops around the world.
Ieuan Evans, Sky Sports commentator and Team Manager of the International Select XV said: "It's marvellous that Sky Sports has decided to show live match coverage -- it gives all the players a real boost while giving fans a great opportunity to watch current and past legends competing against each other, though I must admit I'm glad I'll be watching and not actually playing!
"We are determined to raise £1 million for Help for Heroes and their support for our troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan."
This match forms part of Sky Sports' unparalleled, year-round live rugby union coverage, which includes over 200 matches from domestic, European and international levels, as well as age-grade and women's matches.
Tickets are available via Ticketmaster or by calling 0844 847 2492
