Llanelli Scarlets have appointed former player Nigel Davies as their new head coach.
Davies' appointment follows the Scarlets' decision to sack director of rugby Phil Davies following a disappointing second season in charge.
"It is a great honour for me to accept the role of head coach at one of the most famous teams in world rugby," said the former Llanelli centre, who will return to Stradey Park from his current post as the Welsh Rugby Union's head of rugby development.
"It is really exciting to be returning to the Llanelli Scarlets with the new stadium taking shape and the playing squad being strengthened in time for the new season.
"I believe the experience and knowledge I have gained as a player, coach and administrator so far in my career has been the perfect preparation for the role I am now stepping into.
"I am also looking forward immensely to working closely with Warren Gatland to ensure he is fully aware of the progress being achieved by all the talent we will be developing at the Scarlets.
"My focus now will be on the thrilling challenges ahead and I approach those challenges with eager determination."
Davies made 498 appearances for the Scarlets and won 29 Wales caps before moving into coaching under Gareth Jenkins, first with Llanelli and then Wales.
When Jenkins was sacked after the World Cup, Davies coached Wales for the one-off November Test against South Africa before Warren Gatland and Shaun Edwards took over the national team.
