Lions and England prop Phil Vickery could miss the entire RBS Six Nations campaign with his recovery from surgery set to take longer than first thought.

The 33-year-old was expected to be out for three months after undergoing surgery on his neck following Wasps' Amlin European Challenge Cup tie against Racing Metro in October.

However, despite recovering well after the operation, Vickery is still eight weeks back from returning according to the club.

That means England manager Martin Johnson is now unlikely to include Vickery in his revised elite player squad for the tournament.

England kick-off their challenge against Wales at Twickenham on February 6.

Vickery's Wasps team-mate Joe Simpson is also set to miss out on selection as he faces three months on the sidelines after surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

However Joe Worsley will be pushing for inclusion after he was given the green light to return to full training at the start of February.
