Gasnier: Melbourne target
Melbourne Rebels coach Rod Macqueen has confirmed he has held talks with Mark Gasnier about returning to Australia.
Former rugby league international Gasnier has been playing in France for Stade Francais since switching codes in 2008.
However the 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the current Top 14 campaign - with the Rebels keen to add the centre to their line-up ahead of their debut season in the expanded Super 15 competition in 2011.
"We had a good meeting and I think he's certainly the sort of player that would be good for Melbourne," said Macqueen.
"He's obviously got a lot of things to think about because he's got some offers and contracts in France and he's got to weigh that up against coming out here and having a go at making the Wallabies squad."
Gasnier has yet to play for the Wallabies since switching codes, however his manager George Mimis is to hold talks with the Australian Rugby Union about the possibility of a national contract.
Mimis said: "It's way too early to draw any conclusions but we're going to explore a range of opportunities and once we have we'll sit down and figure a direction."
