Bangladesh sealed a series victory over Ireland by winning the second one day international in Mirpur by 84 runs.

Shahriar Nafees and Aftab Ahmed both made half-centuries at the Shere Bangla National Stadium as Bangladesh made 246-8 when batting first.

Dave Langford-Smith took three wickets for Ireland and had two run-outs as the tourists stunted the home side's innings after a good start with the bat.

The Irish could not get going in their response though despite several batsmen getting starts, and a five-wicket haul from Reza helped to skittle them out for just 162 with still 11 overs left.

After also winning the opening match Bangladesh claimed the three-match series with their convincing victory in Mirpur.

Solid start

Bangladesh made a solid start after winning the toss and batting first, with Nafees and fellow opener Tamim Iqbal putting on a first wicket stand of 94.

Tamim was caught by Kevin O'Brien of the bowling of spinner Kyle McCallan for 46 to bring Aftab to the crease, and he added 64 with Nafees for the second wicket.

Nafees was run out by Langford-Smith for 60 and Aftab made it to 61 before he fell to Ireland skipper Trent Johnson.

Skipper Mohammad Ashraful made a quick-fire 38 to speed-up proceedings as Bangladesh reached 200 with just three wickets down.

The Tigers could not go on to build a bigger score though as Langford-Smith got rid of Shakib Al Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza while also running out Raqibul Hasan as the hosts closed on 246-8.

Langford-Smith finished with figures of 3-43 from his ten overs, and also had two run-outs to his name as he almost single-handedly pegged back Bangladesh.

Crumbled

William Porterfield and Reinhardt Strydom put on 41 for Ireland's first wicket in a positive start to their run chase, but they soon slipped to 47-3.

Abdur Razzak removed Strydom before Reza took two quick wickets of Porterfield and Eoin Morgan to have Ireland reeling.

Andre Botha and Alex Cusak provided the most resistance with a fifty partnership for the sixth wicket but both men were dismissed by Reza as he proved to be a constant threat.

All-rounder Reza ended with fine figures of 5-42 from his ten overs, while Razzak took 3-27 to help Bangladesh seal a comfortable win.
