Samuels: Ban confirmed
West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has been banned for two years after being found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council's code of conduct after an investigation into his links to a bookmaker.
A West Indies Cricket Board disciplinary committee concluded that Samuels had "received money, benefit or other reward which could bring him or the game of cricket into disrepute".
It gave the ICC no option but to invoke a mandatory two-year sentence on the player, who denied passing on vital information.
The committee had looked into charges that the Jamaican passed on team information to a bookmaker during West Indies' one-day series in India in January 2007.
"Corruption is a serious matter," acting ICC chief executive David Richardson said. "Dealing with it effectively is fundamental to the integrity of our sport and this matter is a demonstration that its threat has not gone away.
"It is never pleasant when a player is banned, but the process in arriving at this point has been an extremely thorough one and we hope the case serves as a reminder to players and officials to remain vigilant."
Samuels, 27, has played 29 Test and 107 one-day internationals for West Indies since his debut in October 2000.
