Pakistan beat West Indies by 24 runs

Pakistan secured the one-day series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi with a 24-run win in the second match, despite Shivnarine Chanderpaul's unbeaten 109.

Chanderpaul ran out of partner as West Indies were bowled out for 208 in pursuit of a victory target of 233.

West Indies slipped to 14-2 when Sohail Tanvir (2-32) removed both openers, Chris Gayle and Sewnarine Chattergoon, for ducks early in the run chase.

The damage was partially repaired by a third-wicket stand of 92 in 23 overs between Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chanderpaul.

However, Sarwan departed for 45, lbw to leg-spinner Shahid Afridi (1-42) and from that point it was all about Chanderpaul, as of the remaining seven batsmen only Shawn Findlay (12) and Nikita Miller (12) made double figures.

The left-hander hit six fours in 149 balls but as his partners failed to make an impact the pressure - and run rate - began to increase.

Stranded

With four overs remaining West Indies required 37 with three wickets in hand but a wicket and only two off the over cost them dearly, and even Chanderpaul's heroics could not recover the situation as Umar Gul (3-44) collected two crucial late wickets.

Earlier, Pakistan recovered from 87-4 to post a competitive total after opting to bat first.

Misbah-ul-Haq's half-century held the innings together and was supplemented by solid contributions from Kamran Akmal, Afridi and Tanvir further down the order.

Daren Powell's dismissal of Khurram Manzoor (0) and Younis Khan (34), after Jerome Taylor had accounted Salman Butt (7) in the second over, had put the 'home' side in trouble.

But Misbah came to the rescue with a workmanlike 52 off 88 balls, which included just one boundary.

After he departed to left-arm spinner Miller (1-39) to leave Pakistan at 125-5, Akmal and Afridi shared a crucial stand of 52.

Akmal eventually went for 45 off 54 balls, again with just one four, in the 41st over and Afridi followed shortly afterwards to Taylor for a quickfire 28 off 26 deliveries, which included the first six of the innings.

Tanvir kept the runs flowing with 26 off 20 balls before Pakistan were bowled out with one over of their allocation remaining.

Taylor finished with figures of 3-38 and Powell 3-50.

Pakistan also won the series opener on Wednesday and now hold an unassailable 2-0 lead ahead of Sunday's concluding match.
