New Zealand beat Ireland by seven wickets at Derby's County Ground on Wednesday, the match intended as a warm up for next month's World Twenty20.

With Ireland batting first, Jeremy Bray hit a rapid 48 - including seven boundaries - while teenager Paul Stirling made 29 as the pair contributed an opening stand of 70 in 8.3 overs.

The Black Caps restricted their opponents to 152-5, with Jesse Ryder taking three wickets for four runs in two overs.

In reply, New Zealand lost star batsman Brendon McCullum to the bowling of Peter Connell for just nine runs.

However, innings from Ross Taylor (74 off 36 balls) and Martin Guptill (45) saw them take victory with three overs to spare and seven wickets in hand.
