Former captain Younus Khan has been recalled in Pakistan's 17-man squad for the one-day series in Australia.

Middle order batsman Younus stood down as national skipper in November and made himself unavailable for the Tests in New Zealand and Australia.

He subsequently attempted to regain form by playing for Habib Bank in Pakistan domestic cricket but has struggled for runs.

"Younus is a big-match player and his performance in the domestic matches are not a yardstick for his selection," explained chief selector Iqbal Qasim.

"We wanted (Younus) to play the domestic matches to bring back his focus and keep his fitness."

Mohammad Yousuf, who has led Pakistan since Younus' resignation, will continue as skipper in the 50-over format.

The series against Australia, which begins in Brisbane on January 22, sees all five matches squeezed into a 10-day period, followed by a solitary T20 international at the MCG on February 5.

After the one-day series, Younus and Yousuf will return home because they are not part of Pakistan's 16-man Twenty20 squad, which is led by Shahid Afridi.

ODI squad: Mohammad Yousuf (capt), Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Aamer, Sarfraz Ahmed, Fawad Alam, Younus Khan, Shahid Afridi, Rao Iftikhar, Khalid Latif, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan

T20 squad: Shahid Afridi (capt), Imran Farhat, Fawad Alam, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar, Shoaib Malik, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Aamer, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Salman Butt, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Asif

Fahid Javid says...

i think pakistan should have started with muhammad hafeez, he can bat, field and bowl very well.. he should of played instead of khurrum manzoor or faisal iqbal either one of them should of stayed home, but what i don't understand is that imran nazir isn't in the ODI squad but is in the t20 squad (very weird and unusual.)

Shiraz Khan says...

Pakistan had every chance of winning this series, maybe not the first test but most definitely we should have won the second test, but as always we choke when it counts the most. Khan should have been in the side. What i dont understand is why we keep changing the team. The 3rd batsman is a key position but Pakistan leave this important task to inexperienced test players. Why cant Misbah, Malik or Yousuf play in this position? Also Afridi has scored over 7 100's in test and many 50's and he is not in the test team???? Why does he not step up and take control he is the type of captain we need, he is aggressive, experienced and a quality bowler and we know what he can do with the bat- play for Pakistan and not yourself. My respect goes out to U Akmal and M Amir i am a loyal Pakistani supporter and i am sure my fellow brothers feel the same.

Waleed Asghar says...

I am never going to think of Pakistan winning test series but they have a good chance in the one day series. I am certain they will win the t20 games as shahid afridi is captaining the side.
