Rahul Dravid has had talks with India's chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth about his poor run of form.

Srikkanth has suggested that Dravid should take a break from international cricket and return to form by playing in the domestic league.

Since India's tour of Australia last year, Dravid has scored just 453 in 11 Tests and could only manage seven in their first Test defeat of England in Chennai.

Team-mates of the 35-year-old batsman have been quick to lend support to their former captain, including first Test hero Sachin Tendulkar.

Great

He said: "He is a great player, not just a good player. This is not the first time a cricketer has faced such problems.

"It is a cycle. Sometimes you are at your peak and at other times you are down. It happens to all players at some point. Even I have had my ups and downs."

Many senior players in the Indian squad faced calls to step aside in the run up to their series with Australia in October. Sourav Ganguly fuelled suspicions of secret retirement deals when he gave up international cricket at the end of the series.

However, Dravid's central A contract ensures that he will have the backing of the Board of Control for Cricket in India until September next year.
