Lee: five-wicket haul
Second Test Match
Adelaide
New Zealand 270 (A J Redmond 83, B Lee 4-66) & 203 (B B McCullum 84 no, B Lee 5-105) v Australia 535 (B J Haddin 169, M J Clarke 110, R T Ponting 79, M E K Hussey 70)
Australia beat New Zealand by an innings and 62 runs
Brett Lee took five wickets as Australia dismissed New Zealand for 203 to win the second Test in Adelaide by an innings and 62 runs, claiming a 2-0 series whitewash in the process.
Lee finished with second innings figures of 5-105 as the tourists succumbed shortly after tea on day four at the Adelaide Oval.
New Zealand resumed on 35-0, but Lee set the tone for a day of Australian domination as he removed Aaron Redmond (19) with just his second delivery of the morning as Michael Clarke held on to a catch at point.
The paceman then ripped through the Black Caps top order as he took care of Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor and Jamie How.
Ryder offered a simple chance to Andrew Symonds at cover, Taylor got a leading edge to present Lee with a regulation caught and bowled, while How (28) headed back to the pavilion after a stunning full-length diving catch by Ricky Ponting in the slips.
Mitchell Johnson then weighed in with the first of his three wickets as Daniel Flynn played across the line and the left-armer didn't have to wait long for his second as he bowled Peter Fulton after the lunch break.
The one man to offer any resistance for New Zealand was Brendon McCullum who went on to make an impressive unbeaten 84 which included 14 boundaries and two sixes.
However, while the wicketkeeper did his best to shepherd the New Zealand tail, he was offered precious little support as wickets continued to tumble at the other end.
Daniel Vettori did threaten to steady the ship with McCullum as he frustrated the hosts with a knock of 13, but his innings came to an end when off-spinner Nathan Hauritz managed to turn one out of the footmarks to have the New Zealand skipper caught at slip by Matthew Hayden.
Tim Southee mustered 11 before he fell in a similar fashion, although this time it was Ponting doing the honours at slip.
The tourists did reach tea some 98 runs adrift at 167-8 and remarkably McCullum went on to post a 50 partnership with Ian O'Brien without the number ten batsman contributing a single run.
But Lee returned to eventually end O'Brien's defiance and Johnson wrapped up victory as he bowled Chris Martin who predictably ended with his second duck of the match.
