Matt le Tissier says that despite Leon Best getting on the scoresheet, his overall form for newcastle is a worry.
Aston Villa got off to a flyer in their home game with Newcastle as they forged ahead early on through Gabriel Agbonlahor, as he got to Barry Bannon's cross in front of Fabio Coloccini before firing in from close range.
Newcastle improved after half-time and deservedly won a point when Best beat Shay Given from close range at the second attempt after the Irishman had repelled his initial header.
"Apart from his goal he did not contribute much to the match," said Le Tissier on Soccer Saturday.
"He has to do something because he has never completed a Premier League football match - he has never completed 90 minutes.
"The manager obviously thinks there is something quite not right there - even when he gets on the score sheet he still gets substituted. I think his all-round game needs some improvement."
Newcastle manager Alan pardew believes that his side had the majority of possession, Le Tissier disagrees but does agree that their defence was ptretty tight.
"Newcastle had a couple of chances late on, but Villa had equal share of the possession. A lot of the game was played in Newcastle half - managers see things a little different and Alan Pardew will try and boost his lads up.
"They did not concede a bagful of chances - defensively they are looking pretty solid."
