New Approach will miss Sunday afternoon's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby through injury.
Jim Bolger's charge had been a doubt after it emerged on Friday that he had a bruise to his foot.
The Coolcullen handler gave the colt as much time as possible to recover and even on Saturday there were still hopes that the three-year-old would attempt to follow in the footsteps of High Chaparral who was the last horse to complete the English-Irish Derby double in 2002.
However, on Sunday morning Bolger broke the news that the son of Galileo had not recovered sufficiently and would be a non-starter.
"New Approach does not run," said Bolger. "Obviously it is disappointing but these things happen in racing.
"We have no idea where he will go next. It will have to be discussed with the owners."
