King of Dixie: Set for Goodwood
King of Dixie is being aimed at the seven-furlong Betfair Cup at Glorious Goodwood on July 29 despite losing out in the Group Three Criterion Stakes on Saturday.
William Knight saw finish well at Newmarket, but the son of Kingmambo was just unable to front-running Racer Forever - losing out by a head.
And despite the loss, Knight believes the four-year-old can handle the step up in class at Goodwood.
"He's come out of his race fine and obviously we were just a little bit disappointed that there wasn't much pace on," said Knight.
"I'm sure he would probably have won in another yard or so but that's the way it goes and I'm still confident he's a very decent horse.
"The plan is to aim for the Lennox (Betfair Cup) now and although I'm sure he will get a mile that is probably the best option for him in the next three weeks to a month.
"There aren't any mile Listed or Group Three races that stand out at the moment.
"If he had won on Saturday this was still going to be my next target so we'll stick to it."
