Getaway: Disappointing
Connections of Getaway have set their sights firmly on the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe following a second successive disappointing effort at the weekend.
The five-year-old finished fifth in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on Sunday after filling the same position behind Soldier Of Fortune in the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
But while connections have been disappointed with the entire they remain confident the conditions at Longchamp in the first week in October will suit the son of Monsun.
"It was a bit of a disaster on Sunday. He did lose a front shoe on his near fore on his lead leg," said Paul Harley, racing manager to owner Baron Georg Von Ullmann.
"There was a good covering of grass but the ground was firm. He probably does lack a bit of speed against the top mile-and-a-half horses at the moment, but I feel that he's a different horse with ease in the ground and Mr Fabre is a genius at getting horses right for the Arc.
"I think maybe we all got carried away after he won at Newmarket, but his Arc form was solid against those horses who beat him last weekend so let's not totally give up on the horse.
"Our plan now is to get him back for the autumn and we are sticking to that. The Arc, that's our goal.
"One of the Arc trials is a possibility or we may end up going straight there. I haven't talked about it in great detail to Mr Fabre, but he is considering sending him back to a mile-and-seven to Deauville for a race he won last year, just to get his confidence back.
"That's one of the alternatives we have. The King George is definitely out, but we haven't given up on the horse yet," Harley told At The Races.
