Sanders set to reacquaint himself with Kingsgate Native
Seb Sanders looks set to retain the ride on Kingsgate Native in the Darley July Cup after successfully partnering the three-year-old at Royal Ascot.
The joint champion jockey replaced Jimmy Quinn on the John Best-trained colt, who will eventually stand at Cheveley Park Stud, in the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
"I'm 99 per cent sure it will be Seb (Sanders) on top," said Best of the three-year-old.
The Maidstone-based handler reported his stable star to be on target for the six-furlong championship at Newmarket a week on Friday.
"Kingsgate Native has come out of Ascot fine - no problems at all. I've been absolutely happy with him the whole way through," said Best.
"The plan is still to go to the July Cup. I've not had a day off with him and he seems absolutely 100 per cent.
"He came out of the race well. I always give him a little bit of time off immediately after a race. He had his little break, is back now and is in good form.
"I just hope everything falls into place at Newmarket. There's obviously some very special horses in there and maybe the draw bias won't be the same as it was at Ascot."
