Firth Of Forth
Tom Dascombe and Richard Kingscote teamed up to land a Group prize for the second day in succession when 8/1 chance Firth Of Forth took the Weatherbys Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
Just 24 hours after watching Classic Blade win the July Stakes at HQ, Dascombe was on hand to cheer home his progressive colt, who stormed into a clear lead over a furlong out.
And although the Richard Hannon-trained Weald Bay ate into the deficit close home Firth Of Forth still had a length-and-a-quarter to spare at the line, with Shaweel a neck away in third.
"He's just tough, he's small but he's just amazing," said the winning trainer. "We just keep it simple. I said to Richard 'just ride it'.
"We've got great support, my dad, my mum, the whole family, everybody - it makes my job so much easier.
"I must thank Peter Kavanagh. This horse turned up at the sales with a huge hock on him, but Peter said he would be all right and I bought him for five grand."
The John Jenkins-trained Little White Lie landed the tasty first prize in the £100,000 Ladbrokes Bunbury Cup under Darryll Holland.
The 14/1 shot was always up with the leaders in the seven furlong cavalry charge and stuck on gamely under strong driving to lead inside the final furlong.
Recent Sandown winner Lovelace (15/2f) challenged hard on the near side but failed by a head to land a second consecutive winner's purse.
Regal Parade was a length further away in third and Mastership was not beaten far in fourth, but Mine, who was bidding for a fourth Bunbury Cup, was never in the hunt.
"He's won on heavy, so I was a bit worried about the ground but he just got away with it, reported the winning jockey.
"Michael Hills (on Dabbers Ridge) gave me a nice toe into the race. My horse has won over further. He was very brave and game.
"I was just wondering if the line was going to come soon enough and lucky enough it did."
